YOUR TIME AND YOUR LIFE
“Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:15-16 NASB
A new report revealed that American adults are now spending more than 12 hours a day “consuming media.” The report confirms staggering increases in what is called “multitasking,” as people, young and old, spend countless hours simultaneously indulging in various media.
Many multitasking consumers interact on social media while watching TV. For many, their cell phone is a constant companion, talking or texting while engaged in other activities. Many listen to the radio while driving.
Some, using more traditional means, habitually watch television, program after program. Others restlessly surf the Internet, looking for escapes, browsing clever videos, or shopping for bargains.
These media forces act like magnets, drawing people back. Fed by curiosity, millions seem obsessed by the desire to stay informed. Devices seem to follow them everywhere, in their determination not to miss the latest rumours or stay current.
Whether or not they realize it, many of these people actually are allowing the media to dominate their lives. But the Bible reminds us we don’t have to be trapped. That all of us have choices, and are responsible for our actions.
No matter how convenient these media might be, we don’t have to indulge. No matter how many messages we receive, we still don’t have to respond. We don’t have to check the latest posts or spend hours updating our pages.
As Paul reminded the Ephesians, “the days are evil.” This means that we need to be careful about what we do, and the choices we make. Seeking to make “the most of your time.” Being good stewards of the resources God has given us.
Ask God to give you discernment about how you use your time. Remember that you don’t have to let anyone or anything control you.
Father, give me discernment. I surrender my time, talent, and treasure to You. Help me to have Your priorities for my life, and help me to be faithful. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Pray that God would help Inspiration Ministries be faithful to fulfil His plans and purposes
